Gresham Blake Bespoke Tailoring Consultant and Stylist Martin Jones talks about the trusted Dinner Jacket…..
A Dinner Jacket can take on many carnations from classic black to funky contemporary colours and designs.
Personally I sit in the middle, almost cherry picking various intricacies from both and amalgamating them into one garment.
I adore the look of the classic black wool dinner jacket with silk peak lapels, but this is too sober for me. A midnight blue comes to the top of my list for colour, but bottle green is also fantastic and velvet always wins hands down, offering a beautiful texture contrast against wool trousers.
As mentioned, silk lapels keep the classic feel, but rather than peak lapels a shawl lapel is my preference, we have used this lapel on our AW18 Silk Dinner Jacket, which is finished off with straight jetted pockets and covered buttons. The design of this silk cloth lets the Dinner Jacket do all the talking, keep the styling simple with a black velvet bow tie, white pocket square and black patent leather shoes.
